Leadership with love

January 28, 2025 - Dr. M.J. (Mart-Jan) Paul

Sometimes it is more convenient to work alone than with colleagues. The reality is that we have to work together a lot as a team. How do you do that? Sometimes it takes a lot of patience, especially with colleagues who have a different work style. Paul writes, "Love is patient, it is kind" (1 Corinthians 13:4).

Does this mean accepting everything from others? No, because there are principles and goals that must be met. When we hold the other person accountable for that, how we do it is very important. Let's try to keep the relationship good. It can help to think: What would the other person think of my way of doing things?

💡 Specifically, we can also ask the other person: What do you need to fulfill the agreements and achieve the goals? Helpfulness and empathy are very important.

Working together in harmony does not always work out. This was also Paul's experience in a disagreement with Barnabas (Acts 15:37-40). As a result, their paths parted. Fortunately, they later reconciled the difference.

God made us different and we also have our own characters, gifts and opinions. Let us deal positively with this great diversity, although we may also draw boundaries.
