To build a house you need bricks or wood. What do you need for true love? Paul mentions three ingredients: a pure heart, a clear conscience and a sincere faith. Let's take a closer look at these.
The purpose of your assignment is The love that comes from a pure heart,
1 Tim. 1:5
A clear conscience and a sincere faith.
Ingredient 2: A good conscience
Conscience is the voice that always thinks with us in everything we do. All people have a conscience. Our conscience is determined by our upbringing and our culture. It may be partly good, but is always largely not good.
Our conscience is cleansed by God when the Holy Spirit comes to dwell in us. The voice of conscience then becomes the voice of the Holy Spirit. A Christian is a person with a good conscience. You are honest with God and people. You are a person with one face, not two or three. We call that "integrity."
If we have done something wrong, we should be prepared to make excuses. A clear conscience is more important than keeping your pride. Pride is not always wrong. But pride is wrong when it brings separation between you and another person.
Ask yourself: Are there people I need to forgive? Or whom I need to ask for forgiveness? Being honest and transparent gives our love a powerful effect. Others will definitely see and feel that!
