What is the perfect time Bible reading and quiet time for young parents?

Between driving your kids around to play dates, parties and sports, parent meetings at school and their practical care - oh yes, and your own (work) life - it can be pretty hard to make time for the Bible. Yet there are ways to make this valuable part of your spiritual life a priority. We'd like to help you get started with six practical tips for finding the perfect time to read the Bible.

1. Early in the morning Bible Reading

Many parents discover that early morning is a quiet time before the day really begins. Get up a little earlier to quietly read a few passages. It helps you start the day with a positive and spiritual focus.

2. During lunch break Bible Reading

If you are a working parent, use part of your lunch break to read a chapter or a few verses from the Bible. And for the days you are home: make this a shared moment with your children. Read a section from a Bible that is appropriate for their age, or create a time when each reads or browses in their own Bible. So mid-day can be a nice moment of reflection.

3. After dinner Bible Reading

Another ideal time is after dinner, when the children are still playing or preparing for bed. Who knows, you may even manage to open the Bible with your partner for a while!

4. When putting children to bed Bible Reading

Make bedtime reading a tradition. Choose stories from the Bible that are age appropriate. This not only strengthens their faith, but also gives you a chance to explore Bible stories with them.

5. Use technology for Bible reading

Apps - like our own Study Bible app - and podcasts make it easier than ever to read or listen to Bible texts, even when you're on the go. They are the perfect tool to take a moment to dip into the Bible anywhere, such as while driving or while doing household chores.

6. Be gentle with yourself around Bible reading

With all the tips that might help, it is also especially important to be gentle with yourself. Don't expect to suddenly read entire books of the Bible, but be happy with small steps you take and each Bible verse you take in.
