Bible explanation with Jewish and archaeological backgrounds

In recent years, much has become known about the Jewish backgrounds of the gospels. Many archaeological discoveries have also been made in Israel that provide clarifications. The Bible explanations in common use among us have only a small amount of this information. It is also noticeable that in our tradition various portions have been explained too much from a Western culture.

In Matthew's gospel, lines are drawn from the Old Testament. In many ways, Jesus is shown to be the Son of God, the promised Messiah. This Bible explanation is representative of many Jewish voices from the period before and after the New Testament. In addition to the ordinary explanations of individual verses, there are over eighty topics explained in a separate box. This book is intended to help interested church members and pastors with the explanations. For difficult Bible texts, the most important views are listed and arguments are provided for making a choice.

Prof. Mart-Jan Paul (1955) taught Old Testament at the Evangelical Theological Faculty in Leuven and the Christelijke Hogeschool Ede. Kees de Vreugd also contributed to this book. He has studied the Jewish interpretation extensively and focused especially on the information from Jewish sources.
