The Spirit frees us from the prison of fear

Part 3 of 6 of the theme 'On Easter-resurrection-resurrection  by Gijs van den Brink

Our redemption and deliverance consists of three stages.
1. Freed from the penalty for sin through Jesus' death on the cross
2. Deliverance from the power of sin by the Holy Spirit, and
3. Deliverance from the presence of sin in the world at Jesus' return.

Today we talk about liberation from fear. Fear paralyzes our lives. Fear puts us at a standstill. Fear makes us sick; fear can even kill us.
And that is exactly what the power of sin and what the devil wants. To make you and me useless and fruitless.
Making you and me sick. Making you and me dead.

There are many kinds of fears that bother us every day. Fear of illness, fear of pain, fear of losing your job, fear of lack of money, fear that someone in our family will die. Even numbers like 13 or 666 can scare us. But the greatest of all fears is fear of death. As the Bible also says in Heb. 2:15, that people spent their lives being slaves to their fear of death. So it is today, too. And I understand that very well.

But it is not necessary. Jesus is risen from the dead. That is an amazingly beautiful message. And he sent his Spirit who can free us from fear.

Where are all those things we are so afraid of located? Think about that. God has laid them all at the feet of Jesus Christ, says Eph. 1:22. If you believe that then they lose their power to frighten you!
