Part 6 of 7 of the theme 'Lessons from the Bible book of Job' by Gijs van den Brink
Wisdom is described in Job 28 as an independent greatness. Wisdom is neither equal to God nor equal to all other works of creation. We read in Job 28 three important characteristics of wisdom. 1. The hiddenness of wisdom (vs. 13,21). No one can find her. 2. Wisdom is only found or known by God. (vs.23) 3. Wisdom is involved in the creation of the world. (vs.25-27) In any case, the in details difficult to understand last verse 27 says that God used wisdom in the creation of the world.
The New Testament teaches us that the wisdom of God is one person: Jesus Christ. He was completely hidden from men. He was known only by God. It was he through whom God created the world. The wisdom of God is a person.
Paul says, "But we proclaim a crucified Christ, to Jews a stumbling block, to Gentiles a foolishness, but to those who are called, Jews as well as Greeks, God's power and God's wisdom' (1 Cor. 1:23-24).
Next time: Job as a type of Jesus Christ.
